PARALLEL OPERATION OF TRANSFORMER:

There are certain definite conditions which must be satisfied in order to avoid any local circulating currents and to ensure that the Transformers share the common load in proportional to their KVA rating.

Transformer

SOME CONDITION FOR PARALLEL OPERATION:

  • Primary winding of the Transformers should be suitable for the supply system voltage and frequency.
  • The Transformers should be properly connected with regard to polarity.
  • The percentage impedance should be equal in magnitude and have the same turn ratio in order to avoid circulating currents and operation at different Power Factor(PF).
  • The voltage rating of both primary and secondary is should be identical. In other words, The Transformers should have the same turn ratio, that is transformer ratio.
  • Transformer having different KVA rating the equivalent impedance should be inversely proportional to the individual KVA rating is circulating current are to be avoided.
